  • Abstract:
    The events of Sept. 11, 2001, sent a compelling call to the water utility community to better understand the water quality in the distribution system. In response to the Bioterrorism Act of 2002, the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) conducted research into detection of chemical and biological contaminants, algorithms for interpreting water quality time‐series data, and other aspects of an event‐detection system (EDS). This research has set the stage for EDS development.
